Lorna Crawford
I have been an amateur artist for a number of years.
At school I did “Higher Art” and have always had an interest in drawing, painting and craft work.
When I moved to Aberdeen I took up needlework classes to meet new people, this progressed onto classes at Cults Academy and presently classes at Harlaw Academy and tuition at the Milton Gallery with Helen Bruce and Sue Thornton.
My main interest is landscapes and abstracts and I work in a variety of mediums (watercolour, oils, acrylic, gouache and pastels).
I enjoy Acrylic as it is quicker than oil with similar effects. I can add other mediums which give a range of wonderful glazes and finishes.
My favourite medium is soft pastel for its versatility and pureness of colour. You can lay pure colour in a painterly fashion or blend and overlay colour giving a highly finished and detailed standard.
I work on Art Spectrum paper mainly which is slightly “sandpapered” in texture – it holds the pastel well and is very durable, allowing some under painting in gouache if I require.
I have attended various workshops with Margaret Evans – an internationally renowned artist who features regularly in the “International Artist” magazine and is the former SAA President.
I am a recent member of The Forecourt Art Group and Dundee Artists Society. I look forward to exhibiting with these groups.
In the last few years I have sold work at Cults / Milltimber Annual Festival, The Deeside Art Exhibition and also the Milton Gallery. I have also untaken a few commissions but prefer to keep my painting more as a hobby.
